“Ang pinakamahalaga sa lahat, sa aking paningin, ay ang pagsalin ng katutubong kaalaman sa bagong edisyon na ‘to," College of Arts and Communication (CAC) dean said during the launching of the second edition of Encyclopedia of Philippine Art (EPA), February 21, Friday, at the University of the Philippines (UPB) Main Library.
(The most important, I think, is the inclusion of indigenous knowledge in this new edition.)
CAC Dean Jimmy Fong emphasized his delight for the inclusion of previously ignored indigenous knowledge in the book.
“’Yun ang unang sine-celebrate ko sa librong ito, ang pagsali ng indigenous knowledge o pagsali sa mga kalaman na noong una ay nasa laylayan lamang.”
(That is the first thing I celebrate in this book, the inclusion of the knowledge that were ignored before.)
CAC dean Prof. Jimmy Fong reads an excerpt of his contribution under "Ibaloy" during the launching of the second edition of Encyclopedia of Philippine Art on February 21 at the UPB Library.
“Ang hamon sa atin ay ipagpatuloy ang pag-generate o pag-produce ng knowledge para makatulong pa tayo sa pag-update ng ganitong minahan o mangkok ng kaalaman na pwedengmagamit natin at mga susunod pang mga Pilipino,” he added as he encourages the public to read the book.
(The challenge for us is to continue generating and producing knowledge for us to contribute in updating this body of knowledge that we and the next generation can use.)
Among those who attended the launching were representatives of Benguet Provincial Library, Baguio City Public Library, University of Baguio, University of Cordilleras, Eastern School, and Baguio Central University Library.
According to Chris Millado, vice president artistic director ofCultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), the CCP will launch an online version of all 12 volumes of the EPA on September 2020.
