Baguio preps against COVID-19 as Panagbenga resumes

Baguio mayor Benjamin Magalong announced the city’s preparation amidst the threat of COVID-19 as the traditional events of Panagbenga will resume on March, February 12 at the Baguio Convention Center.


Mayor Magalong said that it is safer to celebrate Panagbenga when the weather is warm since the virus flourishes in a cold weather.


“Nagta-thrive ang virus sa malamig na panahon. Mainit-init na sa March...mas safe na towards the end of March ang events,” he said in the Kapihan sa Baguio conference.


(The virus thrives in cold weather, and a warmer temperature is expected on March. Events are safer towards the end of March.)

Magalong stressed having regular meetings for real-time updates regarding the development of COVID-19 strategic control measures.


“nCoV measures will still continue even after Panagbenga activities until the moment that the country is safe under the threat of nCoV,” he added.


The Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams (BHERTS) of the city released a memorandum requiring residents and visitors to register and identify those who have recently travelled from China.


The mayor also reassured that despite the rescheduling of the Panagbenga Festival activities to the date of festival month for Cordillera, some activities will not be affected.
